SOCIGY - User-Centric Social Platform

INTRODUCTION

Social media is currently dominated by platforms that prioritize business interests over user needs. Their opaque algorithms create "filter bubbles" that limit content discovery and reduce transparency, leaving users with little real control. This lack of user-driven personalization, combined with inadequate protection for vulnerable users, highlights a clear need for a new, user-centric approach. A significant market opportunity exists for a platform that solves these fundamental problems and rebuilds trust.

This project introduces Socigy, a new social platform designed to address these shortcomings with a modern, modular architecture. Built on a microservice system orchestrated by Kubernetes for scalability, its key innovation is a dynamic plugin ecosystem using WebAssembly (Wasm). This approach allows for secure, sandboxed third-party extensions and enables a high degree of user-driven customization, empowering users with a flexible and transparent foundation for their digital interactions.

ARCHITECTURE

Built on a modern, robust microservice architecture orchestrated with Kubernetes to ensure scalability and high availability. The backend consists of independent microservices, all developed with ASP.NET AOT 8 for optimized performance.

Secure communication between services is managed by a Consul Service Mesh using mTLS encryption. The database layer uses PostgreSQL with Patroni for a highly available, automated failover solution.

The front end is a multi-platform solution, featuring a mobile app built with React Native Expo and a web app using Next.js, ensuring a consistent user experience across all devices.

Security is implemented across multiple layers. Instead of traditional passwords, Socigy uses modern, phishing-resistant Passkeys (FIDO2 standard) and offers device-oriented authentication and QR code sign-in for a secure and seamless user experience. The system is designed for integration with HashiCorp Vault for secure management of secrets and encryption keys. On the API level, protections against CSRF and XSS attacks are implemented through anti-forgery tokens and a strong Content Security Policy (CSP).

Users have privacy control over their data. The platform features transparent content distribution algorithms, giving users direct influence over their information flow. Privacy is further enhanced through a "circles" system, which provides granular control, allowing users to customize content visibility for specific groups of contacts.
